Doctor by the Universitat de Barcelona in 1988, since 2007, Chief of the Gastrointestinal Surgery Service of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona from 2007 to 2022. Currently Director of the IQL (Lacy Surgical Institute). Author of more than 300 scientific articles with an impact factor of 1014 (H index of 66), has participated in more than 25 research projects and has published more than 35 book chapters. Member of the editorial board of 3 first quartile journals and reviewer of the most prestigious publications in his field. His main contributions have been the first demonstration for the first time of the suitability of laparoscopic surgery in cancer, the implementation of the transanal approach in the treatment of rectal cancer and describing the basis of hormonal response in the resolution of type 2 diabetes after bariatric surgery. His teaching work includes the creation of the world's largest digital education portal in surgery in the world with free access to more than 1 million users in more than 100 countries. Through his fundraising and patronage work, he has accumulated contributions to the public system of more 25 million euros. 

His main areas of interest are currently Transanal ColoRectal Endoscopic Surgery (TACRES) (TaTME, Transanal Proctectomy in IBD & Transanal Approach in Hartmann’s Reversal), the robotic approach to colorectal and esophageal pathologies and the use of the last technologies and new surgical innovations such as the use of indocyanine green in all its applications (vascular perfusion, lymphatic mapping, metastasis identification….), visualization in 3D and currently in 4k. Professor Lacy participates in several international working groups, such as the international registry of transanal TME. He has performed over 700 TaTME cases to date. He is also a member of international multidisciplinary working groups for bariatric surgery, type 2 diabetes, and Metabolic Syndrome. Also, he initiated the national program in Catalonia of Peritoneal Carcinomatosis with Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) plus Chemotherapy and Hyperthermia (HIPEC).  

Dr. Lacy is the founder of Advances in Surgery (AIS), a global surgical and medical knowledge-transferring, data-driven ecosystem, comprising a set of digital correlative platforms, with the purpose of facilitating access to high-quality content created by the world's best specialists. Its goal is to accelerate the training/learning curve so as to close the gap between innovation and adoption, through the use of behavioral analysis, artificial intelligence, active listening, and adaptive learning management systems.

Finally, among the distinctions he has received are Honorary Fellowships from the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, International Ambassador of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, as well as the Ramon Llull Award, the Josep Trueta Medal for the Generalitat de Catalunya or the Lino Torre Award for Surgical Research Award. He has received the Rei Jaume I Award for Medical Research 2022.
