Dr. Jeanne Lubbe is a consultant surgeon at Tygerberg Hospital and the University of Stellenbosch (US) in Cape Town, South Africa. She has a special interest in minimally invasive endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery and is Head of the Upper Gastrointestinal and Metabolic Surgery firms at Tygerberg. The Metabolic Surgery unit at Tygerberg Hospital was the first unit to be established in Southern Africa in a government setting. She completed an endoscopic fellowship at Huddinge University Hospital and a PhD at Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Stockholm, Sweden. She is a board member of the College of Surgeons of South Africa, an EXCO member of SASES (South African Society for Endoscopic Surgeons) and ASSA (Association of Surgeons of South Africa), founding president of SAMMSS (South African Metabolic Medicine and Surgery Society) and a US senior lecturer, actively involved with both under- and postgraduate teaching.
