Michel Adamina is Professor of Surgery at the University of Basel and Chief of Colorectal Surgery in Winterthur, one of the largest specialized units in Switzerland. He led a cancer inmunotherapy program in Basel and developed and tested innovative cancer vaccines in clinical trials He trained in colorectal surgery in Toronto and Cleveland, graduated in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Toronto and holds a MBA from the University of St.Gallen. He is the President of the Swiss Peritoneal Cancer Group, past president of the Swiss association for Minimally Invasive Surgery and he chaired the Surgeons of the European Crohn and Colitis Organisation (ECCO), of which he now is now a member of the Guidelines Committee, reflecting his expertise in the care of oncologic and IBD patients. He is currently coordinating the ECCO guidelines on surgical treatment of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Prof. Adamina led the scientific program of the European Colorectal Congress of St.Gallen from 2010 until the sale of the congress in spring 2023. He is a member of the program committee of both the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery and of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP), for which he also serves in the membership committee as the Central European representative. He was elected to the European Surgical Association (ESA) and he is a founding Faculty Member of the Swiss Biodesign program taught at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences. 

Prof. Adamina is the author of more than 135 peer-reviewed scientific papers with a personal impact factor of 1'140, a h-index of 42 and more than 12'080 citations, as well as numerous didactic videos, book chapters and book covering the full breadth and depth of colorectal and pelvic surgery. He serves as an Editorial Board member of the peer-reviewed journal Cancers.

Most recently, Prof. Adamina was appointed Department Head of General Surgery at the Cantonal Hospital of Fribourg and Full Professor of Surgery at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. He also founded another major global Colorectal congress, Colorectal THRIVE, which is held yearly in spring in Fribourg and pledges to offer one of the best postgraduate education experience in surgery. In its first edition, Colorectal THRIVE offered 3 Masterclass and 64 expert lectures held by a faculty of 40 key opinion leaders from 12 countries and 3 continents, allowing for 27 hours of structured professional education (CME).
