Prof. Renato Pietroletti is an Associate Professor of General Surgery in the Department of Applied Clinical & Biotechnological Sciences of the University of L’Aquila in Italy. After the degree in Medicine at the University of Rome and fellowships in the UK and Netherlands, Prof. Pietroletti developed a special interest in Colorectal surgery with particular attention to pelvic floor disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases, colorectal cancer and laparoscopic surgery.
His research interests ranged from basic science, such as gastrointestinal hormones to pelvic floor abnormalities, surgical treatment of slow transit constipation and Obstructed defecation, anal cancer and HPV infection. Prof. Pietroletti has been head of a Surgical Coloproctology Unit in the Val Vibrata Hospital since 2011. This is a high-volume, referral Unit equipped with all the up-to-date diagnostic tools for the assessment of functional and neoplastic colorectal diseases.
He is presently Vice-President of the Italian Society of Colorectal Surgery deeply involved in surgical research protocols of the society, monitoring the activities of all research Commissions of the Society and their data management. Prof. Pietroletti is an active member of the Editorial Board of international surgical and gastroenterological Journals contributing to editing and publication activity of the journals.
As a teacher and tutor in the postgraduate School of General Surgery, Prof Pietroletti contributes to mentoring Residents and young surgeons in the acquisition of skills in different areas of colorectal and proctological surgery.
