Dr. Victor Acosta is a Breast Surgeon with more than 15 years dedicated to the study and treatment of breast pathology. He graduated as a Medical Doctor from the University of Los Andes and completed a postgraduate specialization in General Surgery at the University Hospital of Caracas (HUC). Dr. Acosta undertook internships at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, USA, within the departments of Surgical Oncology - Breast Section (under Dr. Kelly Hunt), Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (under Dr. David Chang), and Cancer Prevention - Genetic Council (under Dr. Banu Arun). Additionally, he completed internships at the Department of Senology of the European Institute of Oncology - IEO in Milan, Italy. In 2012, he obtained a Master's Degree in Senology and Breast Pathology from the University of Barcelona, Spain.
His journey in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery began with a Specialization Course in Oncoplastic Surgery and Breast Reconstruction at the A Coruña Hospital Complex under the direction of Dr. Benigno Acea. Subsequently, he completed a Fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery at the L'Institut du Sein - Paris Breast Center in France, under the guidance of Dr. Krishna Clough, participating in a wide range of surgical procedures with Drs. Claude Nos and Dr. Isabelle Sarfatti.
He is an associate member of the Venezuelan Society of Surgery and part of its National Council. Dr. Acosta is the current President of the Venezuelan Society of Mastology. He is also the Secretary of the Latin American Breast Cancer Association (LABCA), a multidisciplinary group of breast cancer physicians from all over Latin America devoted to the development of investigation and continuous medical education activities in LATAM.
He has published various publications on Breast cancer in journals such as Annals of Surgical Oncology, Ecancer Medical Science, Revista Venezolana de Oncología, European Journal of Cancer, Revista Venezolana de Cirugía, and Revista de Senología y Pathología Mamaria. He has a special interest in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery and Breast Reconstruction, seeking optimal oncological treatment with the best possible aesthetic result, the use of genomic platforms, hereditary breast cancer, and the growing use of artificial intelligence applied to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with breast pathology.
