Dr. Atsushi Ogura

Dr. Atsushi Ogura is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgical Oncology at Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine in Nagoya, Japan. He moved to Tokyo in 2013 to serve as a Surgical Fellow at the Cancer Institute Hospital, where he specialized in Minimally Invasive Surgery from 2013 to 2017. In 2018, he studied abroad in the Netherlands and co-authored a paper on lateral lymph node involvement in rectal cancer, published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology and JAMA Surgery, in collaboration with Dr. Tsuyoshi Konishi and Dr. Miranda Kusters.

Dr. Ogura has been a Certified Surgeon of the Japanese Society of Endoscopic Surgery (#22-GS-157) since 2022 and became a Board Certified Councilor of the JSES in 2023. Additionally, he is a Board Certified Trainer of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery (#9191) since 2023. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Clinical Oncology.

His main professional and scientific interests include laparoscopic and robotic extended surgery using transanal or perineal approaches for patients with locally advanced or locally recurrent rectal cancer. He is also focused on strategies for managing locally advanced rectal cancer, including total neoadjuvant therapy and non-operative management.
