Carter Lebares, MD is an Associate Professor of Surgery at UCSF and Director of the UCSF Center for Mindfulness in Surgery. She is a clinically active general surgeon, who received her MD from the University of Minnesota, completed surgical residency at UCSF, and did MIS fellowship training at the IRCAD Institute, Strasbourg University, France. Her research focuses on stress and resilience in surgeons, systemic factors that influence surgeon well-being, and the development of evidence-based policy and interventions to promote surgeon wellbeing. She created the mindfulness-based intervention called Enhanced Stress Resilience Training (ESRT), is a member of the Academy of Master Surgeon Educators, and Vice-Chair for the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Surgeon Wellbeing.
