Dr. Oppong is a UK Colorectal Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Pelvic Floor Surgery and Humanitarian Hernia surgery. He retired from active colorectal practice at the end of 2021 after establishing a Pelvic Floor practice in Plymouth. His practice is now mainly in hernia surgery, at the Plymouth Nuffield Hospital in the UK. He is Chairman of Operation Hernia, a UK-registered Hernia charity that has offered hernia service and training to Low and Middle Income (LMIC) countries since 2005. He is a recognized trainer in hernia surgery in LMIC and has co-authored publications on hernia surgery in LMIC including a publication of the structured training protocol used by Operation Hernia.
He is a member of the European Hernia Society (EHS) and a member of its Committee that drafted the Scrotal Hernia Guidelines. He is an advisor to the Education Committee of the European Hernia Society on Training in LMICs.
