Dr. Emily Huang is a colorectal surgeon at The Ohio State University Medical Center. In her clinical practice, she focuses on patient-inclusive care, and collaborates in multidisciplinary teams to treat patients with colorectal diseases including inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, pelvic floor disorders, and anorectal problems. A native of New Jersey, Dr. Huang completed medical school at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, residency in General Surgery at the University of California San Francisco, and fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Chicago. Dr. Huang began to focus her lifelong interest in teaching and learning on surgical education during residency training, when she obtained a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of California Berkeley while conducting research characterizing surgeons’ cognitive developmental trajectories. She is currently an assistant professor and serves as Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Huang also serves her institution as an assessment expert in the role of Associate Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program, and with curriculum development expertise as Associate Director for Educational Curricula for the Ohio State Robotic Surgery Program. Her research interests include cognition in surgical education, robotic surgical education, patient decision making, and inflammatory bowel disease, and she has been published in several peer- reviewed journals. Dr. Huang is also an active member of the Association for Surgical Education, Association of Program Directors in Surgery, American College of Surgeons, American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
