Prof. Francesco Corcione is Full Professor of Surgery and current Director of the Minimally Invasive General and Oncological Surgery Unit at Federico II University Hospital in Naples, Italy. After his Residency Program, he spent one year at the Clinique Chirurgicale of Rheims as “attaché étranger retribué”. In 1987 he attended a Masterclass in abdominal wall surgery at Amiens with Professor R. Stoppa.

He spent several stages at many important Surgical Units around Europe. He moved to Federico II University in 2019 after spending 20 years at Monaldi Hospital in Naples, Italy as Chief of the General Surgery Department, from 1998 to 2018.

Professor Corcione is Emeritus Member of the Italian Society of Surgery, which served as President from 2014 to 2016. He is an honorary Member of the “Académie Nationale de Chirurgie” (Paris, France). He was the President of the European Hernia Society from 1998 to 2001. He was the President of S.I.C.E. (Italian Society of Endoscopic Surgery and New Technologies) from 2009 to 2012 and collaborates with many National and International Societies. Since 2001 he has been the Professor of the General Surgery Residency Program of Federico II University of Naples. He is also a Tutor and Expert at the International Institute EITS/IRCAD of Strasbourg, directed by Prof. J. Marescaux.

He has participated as a speaker in several Congresses in Italy and abroad and as performer to many Live Surgeries, preferably via Laparoscopy. He organized several Congresses of International interest in Naples, among which the International Congress of EHS (1997) and the “30 years of Laparoscopic Surgery Memorial” (2021). He is the author of around 200 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed impact factored scientific journals, has a Scopus H-index of 26 and thousands of citations. He collaborated on the writing of several textbooks and wrote himself several textbooks such as “New Procedures in open hernia surgery” and “Laparoscopic Surgery”. His main professional and scientific interest is related to Oncologic Surgery, Minimally Invasive Abdominal Surgery, Abdominal Wall Surgery, standardization of the surgical method, quality of care and health economics.
