Dr. Gabriel Paiva de Oliveira is a Consultant General Surgeon specializing in abdominal wall surgery, upper GI, and emergency surgery. He served as a navy medical officer for the Portuguese Navy for nine years before transitioning to a full-time focus on surgery. Passionate about advancing his field, Dr. Oliveira spearheaded the adoption of minimally invasive techniques in abdominal wall surgery within his department and collaborated with colleagues across Portugal to offer educational opportunities in this area.

Currently, Dr. Paiva de Oliveira works with the abdominal wall surgery team at Hospital Garcia de Orta, Almada, and in the private sector with the Abdominal Wall and Upper GI team at Hospital Lusíadas Lisboa. He is a co-founder and the current President of The Portuguese Hernia and Abdominal Wall Society, which hosts various educational events including hands-on courses and webinars. The society's annual gathering, now in its third edition, continues to grow in success.
