Professor Gabriela Moeslein is Professor of Surgery and Dept. Head of the highly specialized Center for Hereditary Tumours at the Academic Hospital “Ev. Krankenhaus Bethesda“ of the University of Düsseldorf.
Prof. Moeslein is the current Chair of the European Hereditary Tumor Group (EHTG) and former general secretary and current program chair of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP). Previously she has been a long-standing elected Council member and Director of InSiGHT (International Society for Hereditary Gastrointestinal Tumors). She is an external advisor for the CFR (Cancer Family Registries) and is a founding member of the IMRC (International Mismatch Repair Consortium). She is also a founding member of the German Consortium for HNPCC and a Steering Committee member. She is a member of the editorial board of Colorectal Disease and Hereditary Cancer.
She is the author of more than 200 scientific papers published in peer-reviewed impact-factored scientific journals.
Her educational activities include a regular Kock-Pouch hands-on training course of the ESCP, which will be hosted for the fourth time in 2024. She has a keen interest in guidelines for hereditary predisposition to cancer and has recently been the responsible senior author of the EHTG-ESCP guidelines for Lynch Syndrome and for FAP and as a novum for other rare adenomatous polyposis syndromes.
Her research activities focus on prophylactic surgery for hereditary conditions, ileoanal and continent pouches and chemoprevention. She focusses on promoting and enabling collaborative studies and networking.
