An Associate Professor at the New York University Medical Center's School of Medicine, Dr. George Fielding also serves as a Visiting Surgeon at The Wesley Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. Dr. George Fielding specializes in laparoscopic and hepatobiliary-pancreatic surgery and has performed more than 6,000 weight-loss procedures, including bypass and lap band surgeries. In recent years, Dr. Fielding has focused on the surgical management of obesity for adolescents and children, including developing a program for treating these young people.
Educated primarily in Australia, Dr. George Fielding attended The University of Queensland, where he earned an MBBS (Australia’s MD) in 1979. After finishing this degree, he went on to complete an internship in surgery and a surgical residency at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. In 1983, Dr. George Fielding became the Surgical Registrar at Royal Brisbane Hospital, a position he held for three years. Dr. Fielding has completed a number of fellowships, including serving as Staff Surgeon at Royal Brisbane Hospital, as Senior Registrar at Glasgow Royal Hospital, and as a Visiting Surgeon at both the Nebraska Medical Center and the University of Bern. In recognition of his academic excellence, Dr. George Fielding was awarded a number of scholarships and prizes, including the Alan J. Lee Memorial Prize and the Lillee Scholarship.
Dr. George Fielding belongs to a range of professional organizations, including the Australian Medical Association, the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, the Australian Gastroenterological Association, and the Queensland Gastroenterological Association. He holds licenses as a medical practitioner in Australia and the United Kingdom, as well as in the state of New York.
