Dr. Jennifer M. Whittington, MD, PhD, FACS, FSSO is a Surgical Oncologist at Elmhurst Hospital Center/Mount Sinai Health System in New York. She completed her undergraduate and medical school studies at East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, TN. She completed her PhD in Clinical and Translational Sciences at the University of Kentucky and her General Surgery residency at the University of Kentucky. She completed a Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She is currently a clinical instructor at Elmhurst Hospital Center/Mount Sinai and specializes in gastrointestinal and hepatopancreatobilary surgery. At NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst she serves as the director of surgical research and is the Chair of the Operative and Invasive Evaluation Performance Committee. Additionally, she serves as the Director of the Hepatic Artery Infusion Program at HHC/Elmhurst Hospital Center.
Dr. Whittington has authored over thirty peer reviewed manuscripts and published multiple book chapters. She holds memberships in organizations including the American College of Surgeons, Association of Academic Surgery, Society of Surgical Oncology, Americas Hepatopancreatobiliary Association, American Pancreas Association, and the Association of Women Surgeons. She serves on the publications committee for the Association of Academic Surgery and is a member of the Career Development Committee for the Association of Women Surgeons. As an active member of the American College of Surgeons she serves as the New York State American College of Surgeons Young Fellow’s Association representative, serves on the Governor’s Council of the American College of Surgeons Young Fellow’s Association, and is the Co-Chair of the American College of Surgeons YFA Inclusive Excellence Workgroup. Dr. Whittington has a keen interest in studying healthcare disparities and delivery of equitable oncologic care. She is involved with the American College of Surgeons Leadership and Advocacy program where she lobbies and advocates for the many uninsured and migrant oncology patients in New York.
