Dr. Keith Kim is internationally renowned as an educator of minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. Dr. Kim is most recognized for his role as an innovator and pioneer in the field of robotic bariatric surgery He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a prestigious John Motley Morehead Scholar and graduated with a degree in chemistry with distinction. He earned his medical degree with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where he also obtained his surgical training as an intern and resident. As a bariatric surgeon, Dr. Kim has performed over 6,000 surgeries, including the Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Duodenal Switch Procedure, Adjustable Gastric Band, and complex revisional surgeries. As a pioneer and a recognized global leader in robotic bariatric surgery, he developed a technique for performing a totally robotic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass that has been taught to other surgeons around the world. He has currently performed nearly 3,000 robotic bariatric surgeries including over 300 complex revisional surgeries. As an educator, Dr. Kim has proctored and mentored surgeons in robotics and other surgical approaches in bariatrics worldwide. He has been an invited guest speaker at over 130 professional meetings and symposiums, a director of over 2 dozen courses, and has organized and directed 5 national and international symposiums. He authored a book titled Robotics in General Surgery, one of the first comprehensive textbooks on the use of robotics in general surgery, and co-authored Robotics in Bariatric Surgery. He has also authored or co-authored 8 book chapters, 12 peer-review articles, and over 100 published abstracts.
