Dr. Rutherford is a General Surgeon specializing in Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal, Endocrine, and Melanoma surgery. He serves as the Director of Upper GI and Endocrine Surgery at Gold Coast University Hospital and is the Chairman of the Upper GI and Endocrine Oncology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). Dr. Rutherford has a long-standing interest in Endocrine Surgery, particularly adrenal surgery, and performs a significant volume of general surgery, especially hernia procedures.

As a dedicated surgeon and family man, Dr. Rutherford is committed to treating patients with professionalism and care. He is also a Fellowship Examiner for the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and a Senior Instructor for Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) with RACS. His previous roles include serving as a Board member for the Australian and New Zealand Gastro-Oesophageal Surgeons Association (ANZGOSA) and as the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at Pindara Private Hospital on the Gold Coast.

Dr. Rutherford is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Australian Medical Association (AMA - AMAQ), ANZGOSA, the Australian and New Zealand Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (ANZHPB), the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GSA), and the Australian Hernia Society.
