Prof Luigi Boni is the Chief of the Department of Surgery at the IRCCS - Ca' Granda - Policlinico Hospital and full professor of surgery at the University of Milan.
After completing his training in surgical oncology at the Department of Surgery of the University of Insubria in Varese (Italy), he focused his interest in minimally invasive surgery, moving to Dundee (Scotland) where he worked with Sir Alfred Cuschieri for more than 3 years.
Back in Italy, he became Associate Professor of Surgery and he founded and led for more than 10 years the Minimally Invasive Surgery Research Center in Varese.
He has been a visiting professor at the University of Pisa (Italy), Dundee (UK), Imperial College of London (UK).
He has published more than 280 scientific papers on various topics in peer-reviewed, indexed journals and more than 20 chapters in surgical books.
He is an active member of several surgical societies, including the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) where he was a member of the Journal and Publications Committee andis currently member of the Technology Committee. He is also on the board of the International Society of Fluorescence Guided Surgery, an Honorary Member of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ALSGBI) a member of the European Surgical Association (ESA), the American College of Surgeons, the Italian Society of Surgery, and a former board member of the Italian Society of Endoscopic Surgery (SICE).
He is a member of several editorial boards and for several years served as subject editor for Surgical Endoscopy.
He has won several awards and prizes, including the best video award at the world congress of endoscopic surgery and at the national congress of the Italian Society of Surgery.
He is on the faculty of several well-known centers such as the IRCAD in Strasburg, the Cuschieri Skill Center in Dundee, the European Surgical Institute in Hamburg and many more.
He serves as consultant for several medical device manufacturers including Johnson & Johnson, Olympus, Storz, BBraun Aesculap, and Human Extension.
Prof Boni is also a pioneer in specific fields within laparoscopic surgery such as single port, fluorescence-guided surgery, minilaparoscopy, handheld robotic instruments, and TaTME.
