Dr. Luise Pernar completed surgery residency and an advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgery
fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is a minimally invasive and bariatric surgeon on staff
at Boston Medical Center. She has an appointment as associate professor of surgery at the Boston
University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. Dr. Pernar obtained a BA in psychology from Bryn
Mawr College, an MD from Harvard Medical School, and an MHPE from Boston University. She serves as
general surgery residency associate program director. Her research is devoted to surgery education and
curriculum development with focus on fostering teaching skills and developing independence
throughout residency training.
