Dr. Norfarizan Azmi is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon who specializes in Cytoreductive Surgery and Hyperthermic Intra-peritoneal Chemotherapy. She is currently serving as the deputy head of the surgical department at Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar, Seremban in Malaysia. She is also an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the International Medical University, Malaysia, and a visiting consultant surgeon at the University Malaya Medical Centre.
At the national level, Dr Norfarizan serves as the secretary of the Colorectal Surgery Service for the Ministry of Health, Malaysia and is involved in the training of fellows for the National Colorectal Surgery Subspecialty Training. She is actively involved in the Malaysian Society of Colorectal Surgeons and currently serves as a council member for the society.
Besides clinical work, surgical training is a core portfolio for Dr Norfarizan where she is directly involved in the training of surgical residents, Master of Surgery trainees, and general surgeons in the department and in the state of Negeri Sembilan. She has been a trainer for the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course under the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia since 2015 and was recently appointed as a trainer for the Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patients (CCrISP) Course.
Her main professional and scientific interest is in colorectal cancers and peritoneal surface malignancy. She started the ‘Cytoreductive Surgery and HIPEC’ program for the Ministry of Health Malaysia in 2022 which she is currently leading and actively collaborating in delivering this service with her counterpart at the University Malaya Medical Center.
