Dr. Philip Bongiorno is a staff Cardiothoracic Surgeon and the Director of Thoracic Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida, Weston, Florida. He attended medical school and completed his general surgery training at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He completed thoracic surgery residency training and a thoracic surgery fellowship at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Bongiorno is board certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery and cardiothoracic surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
He is the author of multiple scientific papers and book chapters. He is a reviewer for the journals: Surgery and The Journal of Clinical Oncology.

His main scientific interest is thoracic tumor biology, specifically the role of adhesion molecules and oncogenes in tumor biology. Clinically, he has a focus on minimally invasive thoracic surgery, robotic surgery, anemia and blood transfusion medicine.
