After completing his studies at OVGU Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg in 1994, Prof. Dr. med. Plamen Staikov started his medical career as a specialist in surgery. In 2004 he became a senior physician at the Clinic for General and Visceral Surgery at Ruppiner Kliniken GmbH, Neuruppin. From 2005 to 2008 he worked as deputy chief physician in the clinic. Between 2008-2014 Dr. Staikov worked at the Baermed.- Center for Abdominal Surgery, Hirslanden Clinic, Zurich, Switzerland. Here he founded and headed the Metabolic Center for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. Since 2014 he has been working as medical director and chief surgeon at the Sachsenhausen Hospital, Frankfurt am Main.
