Dr. Samantha Baker is a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon and Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB). She is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana and attended Louisiana State University for undergraduate education and Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center- New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO) for Medical School. She completed her General Surgery training at the UAB where she took dedicated research time during her training through the Veterans Affairs Quality Scholar Research and Quality Improvement Fellowship. She obtained an additional degree in Health Professions Education through Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Health Professions. She most recently completed fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at LSUHSC-NO. She is currently a member of the leadership committee for the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS). Her research interest include health literacy and surgical education. Sam has three children which she had during training (3yo-PGY 3 baby, 1.5yo- PGY 5 baby, and a 5 week old- fellowship baby).
