Taiwo A. Lawal is a Professor at the Department of Surgery of the University of Ibadan. He also lectures in the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Technology. He is an Honorary Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
He graduated from the University of Ibadan with an MBBS Degree in 2000. He completed an MSc in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics from the same University and has a Doctorate Degree in Medicine from the Hannover Medical School in Germany. He is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons. He had Clinical and Research Fellowship training at the Medinische Hochschule Hannover (Hannover Medical School), Germany and the Pediatric Colorectal Center at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, USA, respectively. He won the DAAD Scholarship in 2006 and the International Guest Scholarship of the American College of Surgeons in 2015.
His research interests are in the areas of surgical care of birth defects, paediatric colorectal disorders, global surgery and medical education. He is the Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences of the University of Ibadan. He is the Paediatric Surgery Representative on the Faculty Board of the West African College of Surgeons.
He is a reviewer for several international and local journals and serves on the editorial boards of the African Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences and the African Journal of Paediatric Surgery. He has over 150 publications in peer-reviewed journals, with over 7,700 citations on Google Scholar, an h-index of 41 and an i10-index of 71. He has obtained training and certification in leadership skills from various organizations including the University of Washington and the American College of Surgeons.
