Dr. Tomás Jakob’s admiration for Bariatric Surgery started in 2009 at Hôpital Europeèn Georges Pompidou in Paris, before becoming a doctor. He graduated from Buenos Aires University and completed General Surgery Residency Programme at Churruca Police Hospital in Buenos Aires (Associated with Buenos Aires University). Since early in residence he started doing research in Bariatric Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery. In 2013 he traveled to the USA to complete Observerships in MIS at Seattle, University of Washington Medical Center (Dr. Carlos Pellegrini) and to San Diego UCSD and “Center for the Future of Surgery” (Dr. Santiago Horgan).
He finished his Residence with 32 Sleeve Gastrectomies as principal Surgeon and participated in more than 300 procedures as an assistant surgeon.
He completed his specialization at Churruca Police Hospital and at CRQO (high volume Bariatric Center) and then worked as Staff Surgeon in CRQO. Together with his medical team, he published some papers in Surgical Endoscopy and presented many research works at several conferences. He has already performed more than 1000 bariatric procedures including Revisional Surgery, RYGB, OABG and LSG.
He is one of the original founders of “Bariátrica Online”, a Bariatric Multidisciplinary Team born in 2018. To date, more than 400 patients have been operated on, almost 200 as Ambulatory Bariatric Surgery Protocols.
In 2019, together with two engineers, he developed “Amanda Care”, the first Spanish-speaking virtual assistant to use artificial intelligence to monitor patients.
His preferred areas in research are minimally invasive techniques, ambulatory surgery and new technologies.
