Dr. Vicente Pla Martí graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1996 from the University of Valencia. He specialised in General and Digestive System Surgery between 1998 and 2003 at the Sagunto Hospital in Valencia, a centre with special dedication to colorectal surgery and one of the pioneers at national level in the development and teaching of coloproctology. In 2015 he obtained his PhD degree from the University of Valencia with Cum Laude qualification for his doctoral thesis on the evolution of continence and long-term quality of life after surgical treatment of faecal incontinence of obstetric origin.
Since 2006 he has been working uninterruptedly with exclusive dedication to coloproctology, initially at the Hospital de Sagunto and since 2012 in the Coloproctology Unit of the Hospital Clínico Universitario of Valencia. He is also a member of the team at the European Center for Coloproctology at the Hospital Nisa 9 de Octubre in Valencia.
Dr Pla is Associate Professor of Assistance at Surgery Department of the University of Valencia. He participates annually as a professor in several coloproctology courses and is the director of the Advanced Colorectal Laparoscopic Surgery Workshop organized by the Hospital Clínico of Valencia. Furthermore, Dr Pla is author of books, chapters and papers in national and international journals, communications to congresses, conferences and participation in round tables.
Finally, he is a member of several scientific societies, including the Spanish Association of Surgeons, the Valencian Society of Surgery, the Spanish Association of Coloproctology and the European Society of Coloproctology.
