Dr Vipin Zamvar is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon providing specialist adult cardiac and thoracic surgical service at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He also holds private consultations at Murrayfield Hospital and Shawfair Park Hospital. Dr Zamvar specialises in off-pump beating heart coronary artery bypass surgery, total arterial revascularisation, lung cancer surgery, surgery in the elderly, and minimally invasive cardiac and thoracic surgery. He also has research interests in coronary artery bypass graft surgery and is the lead investigator for a number of trials looking at coronary artery surgery techniques. He has also published a number of papers and book chapters as well as delivered lectures on cardiothoracic surgery. Since 2006, he has been the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and was the president of the World Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (2015-2016). Dr Zamvar gained his MBBS in 1988 from Grant Medical College before going on to achieve a Master of Surgery degree. His general surgical training was undertaken at Sir JJ Hospital in Mumbai, and he completed his cardiothoracic surgical training in the UK. During his career, he has been awarded the National Talent Search Scholarship (NCERT) as well as the Surgical Innovation Award (BAPIO). Dr Zamvar currently trains surgeons in cardiac and thoracic surgery and is also involved in audit and quality improvement in this area.
