Aiming to provide a comprehensive, in-depth look at how Chinese medicine is practiced and examine its impact on global health, we proudly introduce Meet the Institutions, as part of the Healing in China series, which gives you access to the best centers of excellence in China, and the opportunity to collaborate with these hospitals and participate in activities and projects organized by them. In this event, AIS Channel specially invites top thoracic surgery experts from China, the United Kingdom and the United States to share academic insights on anatomical partial lobectomy. General Introduction of Department of Thoracic Surgery, Cancer Hospital

Cancer hospital
Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences is the first oncology hospital held by China. The hospital was founded in 1958. In 2009, the Institute became the supporting unit of the National Cancer Center, and the Cancer Institute was incorporated into the National Cancer Center.

National Cancer Center of China is as NCI to the United States. Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences is the first cancer hospital in China as well as the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of the 1st Medical University in China (Peking Union Medical University).
We rank 1st in Oncology and Thoracic Surgery on Board of “China best hospital” in 12 consecutive years until 2022 and rank 1st on Board of “Science and technology” in 8 consecutive years until 2022.

The chairman/president unit of all national academic organizations in the thoracic surgery industry, with more than 30 members in our department serving as the Chairman/Deputy Chairman/Standing Committee/Group Leader.
The associations consists of Asian Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Chinese Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and Chinese Association of Thoracic Surgeons.

A total of 9064 patients receiving surgery in our department and a total of 97806 patients visiting our outpatient department in 2021.

Our department has developed and applied a great number of new technologies, including the combination of 3D reconstruction and CT-guided localization guides the resection of multiple and difficult pulmonary nodules, robot-assisted pulmonary resection and resection of chest wall tumor with 3D printing reconstruction.

- Anatomic partial lobectomy: a new surgical concept for the treatment of early lung cancer based on segmental and subsegmental dissection


Anatomic partial lobectomy
- All anatomical sublobectomy procedures are included - Strong inclusiveness, except for typical peripheral pulmonary nodules, the proportion of lung surgery is increasing year by year - APL is the mainstream operation of our hospital, which is easy to popularize.


Research Publication
In 2021, Our department has published 122 research articles, the total IF is 624.651.


Construction of academic promotion and exchange platform
We have constructed the academic promotion and exchange platform in China, aiming to perform the academic promotion for thoracic surgeons and facilitate the improvement of surgical technology.
