Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is an effective alternative to surgery for laterally spreading and sessile polyps up to 120mm in size. Endoscopic removal of polyps involving the ileocecal valve (ICV) is difficult due to a major risk of complications. Thus surgical treatment is often recommended despite a benign histology. Improvements in the EMR technique now make the successful endoscopic removal of most of these polyps possible.
