Developments in obesity surgery and the increasing prevalence of this illness challenge us to look for new and innovative devices to help during the procedure, making it easier and faster with the best surgical quality.
In October 2015, during the Obesity Week, we proposed, during a sleeve gastrectomy, the use of a special 36Fr nasogastric tube equipped with an internal light to be used as a guide during surgical dissection. This lighted tube was used to delimit the remnant pylorus and to calibrate the tubular gastrectomy.
The procedure was visualized on a 4K screen which provides magnified visualization. Have you tried them? You can watch the entire surgical procedure again on AIS Channel with more specific considerations. Using this tube was really easy and, far from interfering with the procedure, it ensured proper guidance, traction, exposure and calibration of the gastric sleeve. This kind of device can help in everyday obesity surgeries and improve them.
