Transthoracic Esophagectomy

Description

Overall Course Objective

This course is intended for esophageal-gastric surgeons with an interest in minimally invasive surgery. This 2-day course will provide participants with in-depth teaching and hands-on training in prone esophagectomy on human cadavers by experts.

Course Description

The purpose of this course is to train esophageal-gastric surgeons in laparoscopy and thoracoscopy (prone) techniques. In-depth teaching sessions will focus on the rationale for the minimally invasive approach, patient selection, operative set up, and perioperative care. Live surgery demonstrations and intensive hands-on practice on a human cadaver model will train participants in the surgical techniques and instrumentation for these procedures.

Target Audience

The target audience is esophageal-gastric surgeons (or general surgeons/surgical oncologists with a dedicated esophageal-gastric practice).

Option A: Didactic sessions + OR demonstration + Hands-on Lab + Free personalised recorded materials for permanent viewing

Fees include cadaver lab, didactic sessions, syllabus, live operative demonstrations, free personalised recording and editing of the cadaver lab, the live surgery and the lectures for permanent viewing by each participant, on-site lunch (finger buffet) and coffee breaks

Facilities

The didactic sessions will take place in a training center equipped with 3D live feed from the operating room.

Anatomy Laboratory

  • A newly-built state-of-the-art facility with stations equipped with Olympus laparoscopic towers, surgical equipment, and latest imaging systems
  • The lab has a simulated Operating room set-up with large screen projection for PowerPoint and video presentations
  • The lab is licensed for the use of cryopreserved anatomic specimens
  • Anatomic specimens are tested for hepatitis C and HIV
